Cody Opal (Australia) Pty Ltd, established in 1971, is a leading opal cutter, wholesaler, and exporter, renowned internationally for supplying a wide range of loose Australian opals, including black, boulder, light, and crystal varieties, as well as doublets and triplets. Recognized for excellence, Cody Opal received the Governor of Victoria Export Award in 2001 and was a finalist in the Australian Export Awards.

Shuichi Minoda (Shu), founder of Iris Opals Pty Ltd, developed a passion for opals after moving to Melbourne at age 22. With over 42 years of experience, he has supplied opals to markets in the US, Europe, Japan, China, and Australia. Now based in Lightning Ridge, he combines his expertise with a love for mining. Known as the “Gentleman of the trade,” Shu invites you to visit him at Iris Opals’ booths.

With over 30 years of experience, True Blue Opals sources raw opals directly from Australia’s renowned fields like Lightning Ridge, Yowah, Koroit, and Coober Pedy. Our in-house lapidary allows us to expertly cut and finish opals, making opal cutting a daily part of our work. Whether you’re a beginner, a collector, or a jeweler, we offer a variety of options—from rough parcels to polished gems. Visit us at gem trade shows in Tucson, Bangkok, Sydney, or Melbourne. Whatever your passion or project, True Blue Opals has something for you!

Lahoud Opals

With 30 years of mining experience spanning three generations, Lahoud Opals specializes in opal mining, jewelry manufacturing, and international wholesale.

Black Opal Direct: A Legacy in Lightning Ridge Opals.
Since 1961, Black Opal Direct has been a family business dedicated to uncovering the beauty of Australian opals, particularly from the renowned fields of Lightning Ridge.
Black Opal Direct continues this tradition with a modern twist—educating, storytelling, and bringing exceptional opals and jewelry to life online.

Creating fine jewels and collaborating with clients for three generations has given Giulians the expertise to intuitively interpret their client’s desires when it comes to the creation of unique designer pieces. Over 150 years of combined experience informs our current philosophy.

Stephen and Elaine Raines established Austgems  in 1994.
After living and mining in Lightning Ridge for more than 20 years, they relocated but continue to visit regularly to source Lightning Ridge Opal direct from the miners.
Elaine is an opal cutter and finishes stones to a high standard.
Austgems supplies cut and polished opal domestically B2B and to the international market.

We, at Absolute Opals & Gems (Australia), are second generation Opal Miners, Gem Cutters and Wholesalers, proudly specialising in Australian Black Opal, directly from the mines.
You will find us located in the heart of the busy mining town of Lightning Ridge New South Wales , approx. 750 km or 468 miles, north west of Sydney, Australia.

Since 1991, Down to Earth Opals has been mining, designing and specialising in selling to the world, one-of-a-kind jewellery pieces and top gem quality loose solid opals.

Down to Earth Opals have an outstanding collection of Lightning Ridge black opal, and supply everything from opal rubs, specimens, solid cut and carved stones to bespoke opal jewellery.

T&K Jewellery Pty Ltd has been mining for sapphires since 1989 within the gemfields of Central Queensland. We take pride in crafting exquisite jewellery from our own supply of sapphires, and we also source a variety of gemstones from Thailand for both retail and manufacturing purposes. Additionally, we specialise in Australian opal, sourcing only from various fields across Australia.

The Lightning Ridge Bowling Club is home to the best beer, food and entertainment in the whole region. Come and experience it today.

For over 40 years, the Lightning Ridge Miners’ Association (LRMA) has advocated for the Opal mining community, engaging with government and non-government bodies on economic and social issues.

Based in Lightning Ridge, NSW—home of the famous Black Opal—LRMA’s Advisory Service fights against policies that threaten the sustainability of local Opal mining. Since its establishment in 1974, LRMA has successfully challenged laws and regulations that once made working and living in the region difficult.

Walgett Shire, a key highway junction, offers unique experiences for travelers. Relax in the Burren Junction Hot Artesian Bore Baths, known for their therapeutic benefits. Take a detour to Lightning Ridge to fossick for black opals or explore the town’s famous car door tours. For fishing enthusiasts, the Darling River Run provides some of the best spots to catch cod or yellow-belly west of the Great Dividing Range.

The Opal Association was incorporated in 2000 and has subsequently attracted a diverse membership of Opal miners, cutters, manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers of many years experience. The Association is based in Australia and has industry members from around the world.

We always welcome Opal companies and enthusiasts who would like to become members. The Opal Association is administered by an executive committee that meets quarterly. All members and visitors are welcome to attend.
